Integrating MobaXterm with GNS3

Integrating MobaXterm with GNS3 can enhance your network simulation experience by providing a robust terminal emulator and X11 server support. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Install MobaXterm

Download and Install MobaXterm: Visit the MobaXterm website. Download the Home Edition (Installer edition recommended). Run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Step 2: Configure GNS3 to Use MobaXterm

1. Open GNS3: Launch GNS3 from the desktop shortcut or Start menu.
2. Go to Preferences: In GNS3, navigate to Edit > Preferences.
3. Set MobaXterm as the Default Console Application: In the Preferences window, go to General > Console applications.

Click on the edit button to add a new console application. select " MobaXterm". In the Path field, browse to the MobaXterm executable (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Mobatek\MobaXterm\MobaXterm.exe).

Replace the path if MobaXterm is installed in a different directory as below
Set MobaXterm as Default: Click OK to save the settings. Ensure that MobaXterm is selected as the default console application by checking the box next to it in the Console applications list.

Step 3: Testing the Integration

1. Start a Network Simulation: Create or open a project in GNS3. Add a network device (router, switch, etc.) to your topology and start it.

2. Open the Console: Right-click on the device and select Console. MobaXterm should open a new tab and connect to the device’s console.
Additional Tips:  X11 Forwarding: MobaXterm's X11 server can be useful if your network devices require graphical applications. Ensure X11 forwarding is enabled in your SSH sessions. Custom Scripts: To streamline your workflow, you can create custom scripts in MobaXterm for frequently used commands or sessions. By following these steps, you should have a smooth integration of MobaXterm with GNS3, allowing for efficient network simulations and management.
